If you have ever consulted a veterinary allergist, you know you've arrived at that funny state of affairs which means that you've read the ingredients list in many other dog foods, and you are willing to buy the best thing you can to stop the dog's misery and the hemorrhage in your wallet.

I started off with a border collie with middling food allergies and I tried a number of different novel protein foods to arrive at a lamb based kibble that worked. Then I got a pound rescued shetland sheepdog who had crippling food allergies he frequently tore bits of the pads off his own toes fussing at the itch between them. A vet pinpointed the food as the problem. He said finding a 'novel' (unusual) protein did it for the border collie, but the sheltie was allergic to other dog food ingredients too. I now had to find a food that worked for both of them.

We had another month of ingredient research and taste testing to arrive at Natural Balance. A novel protein like duck or lamb coupled with a grain free formula did the trick. Natural balance has both, and both dogs thrived on it. I had a third dog who lacked allergies of any sort, who just liked it anyway.

Is it the "best" dog food on the market? A hard call there are pluses and minuses to just about any food option available, including raw meat diets. For the 10 years he's been on this food, my elderly border collie has had a shining black coat, the teeth of a four year old, and no more intestinal upsets. I would need a very compelling reason to look elsewhere for a better food.

I have purchased Natural Balance LID dry dog food for my dogs since 2008. I have one dog that has food allergies and this product really helps to control her digestive problems. I also feed it to my other dogs as well because after researching dog food and what goes into a lot of them, I would never purchase anything again for my dogs other than a natural ingredient dog food.

Boston Terriers are notorious for their gas and mine are no different. I've fed them many different foods and this is the one food that doesn't give them gas. It is wonderful and also limits their food allergies. Even though it is expensive, it is quite worth not having to put up with the room clearing gas attacks.

We tried all the gluten free/meat first recipes and it seems that this one won the race to taste, cost and likeability by the pets that eat it. A solid in between for the high end fish only recipes and the other main-meat products. No grain…less poop.

I wrote a review on Epakatin and Azodyl but recently came across another product which I found was more successful than these products: Ubiquinol CoQ10. I am not recommending a brand because I want you to know that this submission is genuine.. I was so excited by my good news that I had to update my review and discuss my Ubiquinol CoQ10 experience (because I know you all have cats and dogs who you want to save/buy time)....

Folks: Ubiquinol CoQ10 was suggested to me by the Mrg of a vitamin store. I was formerly using Azodyl and Epakatin on my cat with good results. I use Ubiquinol CoQ10 myself because I have cardiomyopathy and tire easily. I took 500mg daily and noticed within weeks I was having more and more energy, my skin looked 10 years younger and my metabolism sped up a tiny bit. Coq10 strengthens the muscles of the heart (via the cells). Then I heard it could be used for renal failure in humans... I have a cat with the beginnings of renal failure so I spoke with my vet and told him I was putting my 14 pound cat on it. My vet had the old bloodwork so I followed up with him 1 month later and my cats creatine levels went down from 3.8 to 3.0!!!!!! I had my cat on 30mg of Ubiquinol Coq10. UBIQUINOL COQ10 IS INCREDIBLE. I AM NOT JOKING! PHOSPHORUS was also in check too! So much so that my Vet called me and wanted to know my dosage! Folks, wanted to report to you that my cat Angelpuss died today but not of renal failure. Actually her creatnine was 3.0 which wasn't that bad.

She actually died because she didn't want to live anymore and had stopped eating. From the time of her diagnosis in 2009, she lived an additional 3 YEARS BECAUSE OF THE LIQUID UBIQUINOL COQ10. What a miracle of God. I am so greatful. This product was shown in human clinical trials to reverse renal failure and Cardiomyopathy. I would highly recommend you try your animal on this product.

I buy this for my cat and just give a small amount per feeding. I bought the larger container for the cost. Beware: The smaller container comes with a smaller spoon. The 300 gram container comes with a bigger spoon. I was glad to have kept the smaller spoon!

We wish we had this in 2005 when our 16 year old kitty Cleo passed away from CRF. When her sister Shorty was diagnosed in Oct. 2005, we were told she might have a month or might have a year. Well, she made it to age 19 1/2 in Sept. 2008 (3 years later!) and we're sure that Epakitin is the reason. We added the Azodyl last year when we became aware of it, so that may have helped too. We mixed both in with grain-free Wellness brand food to reduce phosphorus and toxin buildup. And NO dry food, big no-no! Good luck, and bless your sweet pootie or woozle.

Very effective part of our plan to treat Zeke's (our 8 year old husky mix) renal failure over the last five months. We found the following helpful in avoiding some of the reported side effects:

* tracking Zeke's weight weekly and adjusting Epakitin dosing accordingly.

* using a scale that very accurately measured from 0.1 gram up to 20 grams.

* adding Epakitin to equal amounts of cooled freshly cooked rice and canned food.

* 12 hours between doses

But renal failure comes in degrees of failure, and for Zeke we knew there would be a day we would have to say good bye. That day was Tuesday (February 8th). We did not believe that Epakitin would be a cure in any way, but it helped us maintain a high quality of life for Zeke for five months.

This carrier looks and feels sturdy and well made. The fleece pad for the floor is soft and cozy looking. The strap is quite comfortable too. I have a medium to large size cat, approximately 11 pounds, and found this carrier much smaller in size than I expected and had to return it. If you have a small dog or small cat, this would be a very nice carrier. I'd suggest measuring your pet's height and length to make sure they'd fit comfortably into it's dimensions before you get this carrier.

I purchased two of these carriers to transport for two cats (Bosley and Gnocchi) from San Francisco to New York. Overall they did what they needed to do but there were a few mishaps. The price for these carriers are great at about $32 dollars per bag they were about half the price of what I had to pay to purchase a carrier locally or for other pet carriers on Amazon.

The pros:

*Cheap cost

*Works well for containing an animal for long periods of time

*Removable lining in a material my cats love

*Little pocket I can use to reach in and pet/comfort my pets

*Lots of openings I can slip my hand in through to give them things with (very useful for pre-attaching their harness leash for security walk through at the airport)

*The bag is very flexible. Virgin American let me take them on the place though the dimensions were a bit bigger than standard as they still fit under the seat.

*The bag is made from a very strong material on the outside. When my cat flipped over I thought the carrier would rip when I though I felt claws on the bottom side but really nothing ripped at all even when my cats tried to claw themselves out after being confined for 10 hours on a car ride from San Francisco to LA (prior to flying to NYC).

*My cats have large frames and there was still plenty of room for them to move about in the carrier. I wish there was a medium size carrier by Bergan though as this one is a bit on the larger size.

The cons:

*The lining is removable and not very secure. My cat freaked out at one point in the car ride and got under the lining and was sort of stuck underneath for a period of time before I could pull over and right him in the carrier

*The shoulder strap is not that strong. My cats weigh 12-13 pounds each and it felt like the plastic hooks might break

*The support the bag gives is not that great. Same as above, it definitely felt as if the cats were sagging in the bag and the weight distribution is not good unless you hold it by the handle from above.

*The bag may not hold up to consistent use. The fabric on the inside of the carrier after about 3 days of use is pretty clawed up (just small claw holes, no stratches/cuts in the fabric). I think the fabric inside is may from some kind of acetate/polyester blend and it isn't holding up well.

*The bag does not stay upright. After awhile my cats would freak out on their own inside the carrier and basically roll over. I used these carriers as kennels to contain my cats as I cleaned my new apartments bathroom with bleach and I put them on one side of the room. After about 30 minutes they had rolled themselves to mid-room. Basically it is like trapping them in a big flexible bag so don't expect them to stay put if you have active large cats.

Overall, while there are a lot of cons, the bag is a good deal and they look nice and my cats seemed to like them originally prior to being shut in them for a few hours (they now have a very strong aversion to the carriers once the zip is closed.

I did lots of research online and in person before buying this carrier for my 8-lb. cat. I'd purchased another one because it was cheap ($15 or so), and learned the hard way that a flimsy, too-big carrier is actually worse than none at all. Advantages of this product: you can soothe the animal with a gentle hand via a zip-open access, the carrier has a soft, relatively stiff base that keeps your pet stable when carried, there's lots of ventilation, the carrier opens at both ends, and the product is well-constructed and sturdy. Small size is perfect for airline carry-on. (Don't know about the other sizes.) I'd read in another review that cats are more comfortable in a carrier on the small size rather than too roomy; now that I've gone both ways, I know that's true. Tip: two weeks prior to the trip I unzipped the carrier and placed it near her food dish so she'd become accustomed to it. I put a few kibbles inside, which she approached warily and finally ate. Getting her into the carrier on travel day was MUCH less traumatic than any previous trip, and being able to pet her reassuringly en route made a big difference. (BTW, I also purchased the "Come with me kitty" harness and leash for extra control in case she struggled while being removed and replaced for the airport security check. It worked well as a precautionary measure, but I sure can't imagine walking a cat with it.)

My cat's my best buddy (10lb tabby), and I was about to travel across the continent and over a huge mass of water for 14 hours. I wasn't going to put him through the trauma of being with the baggage if at all possible. So, there I was on the hunt for the best carrier for both he and I for him, something comfortable and cozy, and for me, something that was easy to travel with, light, and gave me piece of mind that he was comfortable and cozy. This is the carrier that met my needs.

I went to the pet stores and "test drove" many bags, some were too uncomfortable to sling over your shoulder and had zippers and pockets that were difficult to manage this carrier was none of the above. It had ample number of pockets to store toys and treats, and it had a very soft "bed" that's easily removable for cleaning. I double-checked dimensions on 3 different airframes as we were transferring planes from one airline to another... this carrier fit just fine when positioned on its side and tucked underneath the chair in front of me. Also, it's frame holds its shape well when pulled back out and fits easily in the space between you and the chair in front of you (might be a little tight for those with longer legs). Something I liked very much was the viewable space all around the carrier. There were enough "screened" sides on the carrier that made me feel my cat was getting more than enough air and had enough windows to look out and not feel claustrophobic.

As a dog owner, I try to do the best for my dog. My mother is a veterinarian technician and strongly recommend that I take good care of my dog's teeth. Based on her job, she had plenty of stories about dogs with terrible teeth and told me that I should either feed my dog an oral care food or brush her (my dog's) teeth daily. Knowing that I wouldn't want to brush my teeth and that my dog wasn't going to like it, I opted for the oral care science diet. My mother recommends the Hills Prescription Diet TD (prescription oral care), but said that the oral care is also acceptable since it is available without a prescription. I have been feeding this to my dog for 3 years (since she was a puppy) and her teeth are very clean and white. I rest happily knowing that I won't be dealing with a vet recommending that I pay a huge amount of money to rip out teeth or put my dog under to get a teeth cleaning (these procedures can run into the thousands of dollars in some severe cases). Over all, the food is more expensive than other foods, but the benefit of knowing that my dog's teeth are well cared for is worth it to me because I know how expensive the alternative can be. So we love this product. We mix is about 1/3 of this with his other dog food (Blue Buffalo). Our dog builds up a lot of tarter on his teeth, and this really helps clean his teeth in addition to brushing and greenies. As this product is a bit pricey we mix it in with 2/3 other dog food (which is also pricey lol). I think its works great on its own or as a mix. The dog really looks for the bigger bites and I think encourages him to eat more. He is not picky but really doesn't eat a lot. I order online and have gotten free shipping sometimes.

I bought this for my two four year old dogs (a miniature poodle and a Lhasa Apso) when I discovered their gums were inflammed and had the beginnings of gum disease. At first I was alarmed when I got the bag because the food chucks are rather large for my small dogs, however I remembered it is probably them chewing on it that will remove the tartar. Sure enough they love these mini golf ball size food.

It helps their gum problems and it's cute to see them grab one out of the dish and run into the living room with it like they have a prize. I have a two sided bowl and put this in one side and the mini food bits in the other and they prefer this food.

I still offer them both.

I have tried several varieties of dog food. Most considered "super premium" types. What they don't tell you is the difference in the first ingredient. While having a meat, whether it be chicken or fish or duck or whatever, is the easiest way to separate good from great it doesn't always show which is the best. Pound for pound, you want as little grains as possible with the highest concentration of proteins for your active pet. This formula is great because the first ingredient is CHICKEN MEAL. Meal yields more protein then a first ingredient simply stated chicken. I used Iam's Mini chunks before but after a recommendation from a breeder, I use Pro Pac for both my extremely active dogs. They love it and I love the price. Not only that, I know I am giving my dogs the best dog food for their nutritional needs. On top of that....every 10th bag is free.

I give this to my two senior dogs. They will eat anything, so I don't know if how a picky dog would like it. My yellow lab gets ear infections from cheap food (really, the vet told me, I got this food and they went away), but not since she's been eating this.

Overall great concept. It's surprisingly aesthetically pleasing despite its enormous size. I like that the food loads from the top and it has a huge opening. I haven't tested it with an 18lb bag of dog food to see if it really holds it, but I'd be surprised if it didn't. Odds are if you have a dog that needs and 18lb feeder you're buying 40lb bags anyway. The only reason it doesn't get a fifth star is because the food doesn't really slide all the way forward like it should. My dogs eat the medium size food and it slides about half way into the bowl. While it doesn't fill the bowl very well and that seems strange, my dogs would never starve. There is enough of a slope that the food will continue to flow until it is empty. Different food I'm sure would behave differently. It works well with Purina Dog Chow in the green bag.

I bought two of these as we have 2 big dogs. The containers are huge!!!! Make sure you have floor space. We buy large breed dog food in small chunks size (Iams). The food at times doesn't flow into bowl easily but I just give it a tap with my foot and that works! Overall pleased with this purchase.

I got a smaller version of this feeder as a temp replacement for the one I have in storage. It's aweful! The food doesn't go down. Multiple times a day I had to either use a spoon or my finger to pull food forward. The other feeder I have has a slope so the kibble actually goes down into the tray. This one just drops so there is nothing getting the food to move forward to the tray section. Took it back and got the one with the slope. Now I have a feeder that actually "feeds" into the bowl so my pet can eat :)

This I feel is the most important supplement, that a person with a senior dog, should add to their food. Or if your dog has hurt themselves. My husband and I show and breed Bulldogs and Bullmastiff. Which are breeds with large bones and are very massive dogs. I have a 9 1/2 year Bullmastiff, who was one of the top 20 Bullmastiff in the country for 2005, and now he is my senior dog, I have been told that he still moves like a 5 year old. I purchased another bag while he was being groomed 4 days later this store is 13 miles away so I figured it would be a good idea to grab another bag. My two yorkies are so picky that it has taken me a year to find a food they'd eat and have it be healthy at the same time. I purchased this product as an alternative to a rawhide. Our 5 month old German Shorthair Pointer puppy ate it in a matter of 6 minutes or less. She loved it, but it was more of an expensive treat.

With a puppy, I needed something to satisfy her chewing urge. The treat fractured into small bits all over the floor but our dog was willing to pick those up. The pieces looked rather sharp and that was a concern. Others mentioned it was made in China and I would like to add the first ingredient is corn. It might last longer for very small dogs.

Read your labels, people!!! SMART bones are made in China!!!!!! A neighbor told me how great these were. After buying them, I read the fine print in the back. "Made in China!!"

My little Bichon Frise (15 lbs) loves these bones! He gets one almost every day. He chews and plays with it for an hour or more. They have improved his teeth and keep his breath fresh. He has no problem digesting them. They are the only dental bones I have found that he hasn't lost interest in after a short time. He is a very picky eater, and doesn't like most dental bones.

The bones are ok. My pup chewed through one of these in about 10 mins. She seemed to like it, but I was hoping it was more of a chew-style toy rather than a quick snack.

This treat was great BUT my extreme chewing puppy lab ate one in about an hour! Obviously loved the flavor, but for a lab it is too soft.

My puppy loved these and wanted to chew on them, but these are sticky and a lump stuck on the roof of my puppies mouth and also inside his lips and teeth. I had a hard time taking it out. I feared it might choke him and his tummy might get upset. I threw away the remaining 2 bones. Usually I like Nylabone products, but would not recommend this particular product for your puppies safety.

My puppy really likes them, the only downside is that they are gone in less than 5 minutes. It's like an oversized dog bisquit. If your wanting something to keep them busy for a while, it may work for a little dog, but my lab/rtriever mix destorys them. He does enjoy them though.

I did not purchase this item because I am disabled and low on income right now. However, I found some at my local feed store a few weeks back and this is the best Dog food ever! I have a Chihuahua who is such a fussy eater. He literally could not walk away from the bowl. I just can't say enough about this product. It looks and smells like chicken stew. Sliced carrots and peas and all. It is amazing! It is the REAL Deal. So, if you have a fussy eater purchase this product. You won't be sorry and your Best Friend will be entirely content and you can finally quit worrying.
