My rabbit has been on antibiotics continuously for 6 months. Probiotics are a must to keep her from having GI issues, since antibiotics do a number on the all-important intestinal flora. I had used the tiny Bene-bac tubes from a local pet store before, but for a 10-pound rabbit this 15g tube is much more convenient. She gets 1 g every other day (the amount recommended for 10 pounds), and it is easy to measure and dispense. Supposedly pets like the taste of this stuff, but my bunny hates the texture (sort of gooey and oily, like vaseline). As thick as it was, she easily just spit the whole thing back out! But mashing it with a small bit of banana and some grated apple nicely disguises the texture and taste, and she enthusiastically eats it off the plate this way. Warning: If you want to try this with your rabbit, check with your vet first, because giving sugary things like banana and apple with stomach issues might make your bunny's situation much worse by feeding bad bacteria in the gut.

I got my first tube from my vet when I asked him if he had any probiotics on hand. Since then I've bought it here (from Nature's Horse), because it is half the price and has an expiration date much further away -a year vs. two months with what my vet had. Since probiotics contain live organisms, the expiration date is important. I will always keep a tube of this on hand for stressful situations that might compromise a sensitive bunny gut!

Product needs to be fresh. This vendor [PetAg ] supplied product that was 5 days from expiration. Our pet did not want it, a different response from the fresh product the vet had supplied a year earlier.

My cat was having episodes of diarrhea every couple of months. The vet gave me meds to cut down on office visits, but the cat got wise to my tricks to catch her. After a number of bouts with Pasturella and numerous courses with antibiotics, my rabbit's snuffles and head tilt finally went away. Sadly, after receiving the antibiotics, the rabbit had ongoing diarrhea. Per the advice of our vet, we tried the all hay diet to no avail and eventually she prescribed probiotics. The diarrhea initially went away, but came back after stopping the probiotics. Enter Bene-Bac.

On maintenance therapy, I have a happy rabbit who is diarrhea free. Sadly, our local pet stores only carry the small tubes of Bene-Bac in small quantities. The combination of the expense for the tiny tubes and the fact that we had to go from pet store to pet store to find which one had the Bene-Bac in stock, led me to Amazon and this product.

Buying the Bene-Bac in larger quantities saves big time on cash. Unlike other probiotics, the rabbit (for some reason) actually likes the Bene-Bac and eats it excitedly and willingly.

This is not a true review about this products features per say.....but I feel that everyone needs to know that this company has recalled their products and it is going on right now.

To begin with, I want to say that I know that unfortunately there are plenty of human products that get recalled too and that is the most important thing. And yes, I know that every time we go eat out or buy any type of store bought food.... that it is a gamble too.

But, my family considers our dogs as part of the family and this is very important too.I too love Grain Free dog food and love that the first ingredient is actually the real meat.

I searched relentlessly for a reasonable priced food that has no by-products, dyes and are grain free. Which my lil' white Maltese needed for her allergies and tear stains.

I am saddened that we actually spend more money on these "better than store" dog food and they keep getting recalled!

So many families have unfortunately lost their fur babies babies and have spent thousands of dollars on Vet bills....when all we are trying to do is buying the "better" which are higher priced, dog food ingredients.

I am pretty thankful that I had signed up online,for emails about the latest dog food recalls last week.

My hubby and I was devastated to see that Diamond Dog Foods, Taste Of The Wild was on the list now.

Diamond Naturals was recommended by my Cockapoo breeder and so far he really likes it and digests it really well. It is made with high quality ingredients and very small kibbles. Used it for two months now. Not sure it's helped at all. My dog still thinks she's starving. I had already cut her back, then cut her back more on recommendation from the product directions. She loves the taste, but if she's lost even 2 pounds I'd be surprised. Worse, though, is that it doesn't seem to stave off her hunger at all (that IS a tall order though, as she is one of those dogs who would eat until she explodes....).

I have been using this product for several months on an over weight, spayed, eight year old female Dalmatian. I rescued my dog years ago and she is now about 16 years old. Ever since I got her she has been fighting endless bouts of diarrhea. I have tried the "best" food and even cooked for her. The only thing I didn't try was the raw diet (too gross for me). The only thing that would help was sprinkling tylan powder in her food. Finally found this and my dog couldn't be happier and healthier. She loves eating it plain (no nose-turning!) And perfect poops! Finally, she is having consistent perfectly formed poops. He's not big on kibble but he likes this well enough. I don't know if the grain free is helping him lose weight, but the texture of his "sturdiness" has changed. And he definitely has more energy.

but you should probably buy it at your local store or you might end up getting old stock like I did. You should always have a one year before expiration and the package I received has less than 6 months before it expires. Not a big deal if you have a couple of big dogs but I have one medium sized dog :( that said it is one of the few all natural vitamin supplements out there, they almost all have something synthetic not this one :)

Very good product. Best supplement for cats, hands down. Easy on their stomachs (they don't vomit it back up like some other supplements). However, the packaging is useless. The zipper at the top NEVER works once you've used it once, because it gets clogged easily with all the little granules. So you have to put it in another container after opening. I'd also like it if the granules were smaller and/or more uniform. Sometimes I get hard "chunks" that clog up my syringe.

I have 3 terriers and one is an allergy dog. She's got both seasonal allergies and is sensitive to food ingredients. After years of treating the symptoms with drugs I started reading about how a "species appropriate" diet would help with her allergies. Dr. Becker's Real Food for Healthy Dogs and Cats: Simple Homemade Food I never knew by reading the label on dog food what was good or bad, now after learning about how dog food is made, what ingredients are most important and what I should avoid, I've started feeding "grain free" and as low a carbohydrate feed as I can find commercially. We must be careful that dog food isn't overrun by ingredients that have too many carbs like potatoes (sweet or otherwise) peas and grains. Dogs wouldn't get those in their natural diet unless in the stomach of prey. Be careful, when a food ingredient is listed on the label multiple times, the food is mostly that ingredient. So it could be all potato and not meat. Anyway... In an ideal world I would be cooking for my dogs, but I just don't have the time or the freezer space for that. After much research, trial and error, I've found Merrick's Whole Earth Farms Adult Chunky Loaf Dog Food, to have quality ingredients for a really decent price. While there's a slightly higher proportion of carbs from carrots, sweet potato and peas and a little less in protein, its a good place to start. My dogs love it, it smells good and I rotate this every other day with a higher quality feed Instinct Grain-Free Lamb Formula Canned Dog Food by Nature's Variety, 13.2-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) to keep my costs down. This line of feed from Merrick is made with high quality ingredients and even though I leave kibble out all day, my pups dance around the bowl at dinner time to get this canned food. What's nice is that since they don't use grain or too many carbs, my dogs get good nutrition and their stool (yeah it gross but that's a factor in buying dog food) is more firm, small and less odoriferous. sometimes when changing food, you must introduce the new brand slowly so that their system can adjust. My allergy girl is doing well and I only have to treat seasonally when its really bad outside. If you'd like some help to determine if the food you buy is really good for your dog, I've found www(dot)DogFoodAdvisor(dot)com to be the best place for reviews of both wet and dry dog food. I may not agree with everything they say, but its a wonderful place to start. I know that your 4-legged friend will do well with this brand. The only reason it got 4 stars was that it needs a wee bit less in the carbs.

One of my dogs has certain food allergies and therefore we have to be careful in what he eats. One dog is a Saluki and the other is a Westie. The ingredients look very wholesome and both dogs like it. I am impressed that Merrick came up with another line of dog food. Our dogs have been fans of their other products; we have tried their other wet and dry foods, as well as their treats. This one is more affordable for their everyday diet. Don't be fooled! The picture is of the original Shed Stop, but the product is Shed Solution, which is different. Shed Stop contains no water, whereas Shed Solution lists water as the first (major) ingredient! Be very careful, if you want the original. I ordered "Shed Stop Dog Supplement Gallon" at $58.99 through Amazon, and Entirely Pets sent Shed Solution instead! The whole point in ordering the gallon was to get it before Shed Stop was no longer available. I will return the inferior product to Entirely Pets, but what a waste of my time.

There used to be a product called, "Mrs Allen's Stop Shed." There were separate products for dogs and cats. In March of 2006 Farnam Pet Products announced that it had acquired Mrs. Allen's Shed-Stop from Stabar Enterprises, Inc. Once acquired, Farnam changed the "Stop Shed" name to "Shed Solutions" and then discontinued the one specifically for cats. This is a case where a company acquires a product/brand (in this case, Mrs. Allen's) and messes a good thing up. I used the original products on dogs and cats for years and they were terrific. I emailed the Farnam in December of 2010 and explained my frustration that they no longer produced and sold the product made specifically for cats, and was politely told to go elsewhere for my cat shedding problem. So, now I use the "Shed Solutions for Dogs" for our family dog and cat. They both seem to like the favor, and it does help. Is it as good as the old product? I don't think so, but it definitely helps. We are stuck with this product until Farnam dusts off the original formula and offers one for dogs and cats, or Mrs. Allen comes out of retirement!

This stuff is really amazing and I will NEVER run out again! That is how I found out how amazing this stuff really is. I hate the fact that it costs almost $60 with shipping for 1 gallon which is why I hesitated the second time around. My husband said the wet food we are now giving her is supposed to do the same thing as this stuff....so I decided not to re-order. We ran out of this stuff for our boxer mix female last Tuesday and 6 days later I cannot tell you how much hair is all over the floor. It did take a good 6-8 weeks initially for her to stop shedding which I kept wondering....does this stuff work or what? But now that we've run out and less than a week later the hair is back I am CONVINCED this stuff is worth it. The hair clogged my vacuum cleaner...ugh! My Shiba Inu was tested and found to be allergic to a number of environmental allergens the vet recommended he also be put on a hypoallergenic dry dog food but despite its' high cost, my dog would smell his food and walk away. So, in desperation, I ordered a duck and potato canned dog food at first, when I added it to his dry dog food, he would eat his food but by the time he had gone through a couple of cans, he started to ignore his food again. So when I looked on Amazon, I found this Wellness brand and decided to give it a try. The shipment arrived yesterday so I opened a can and of course, my dog came over to check it out. This one is very wet and dark in color (compared to the other canned dog food which seemed to have a lot of potato). It smelled OK and my dog agreed because he waited until I prepared his dinner and ate it all. Will have to see if he still wants to eat this in a few weeks.

I have been feeding my 17 year old bichon Wellness for about three years. After the first year, people told me he was looking/acting healthier than ever. Knowing I could get it shipped by Amazon has been so helpful and the price is good. Lately, however, I have been receiving NUMEROUS crushed cans within a delivery. The whole case is NOT damaged. The cardboard is perfectly intact, and the plastic wrapping is pristine. When I start to take out the cans, however, I find ones that are so severely damaged, I would NEVER use them! I must admit, I have NOT contacted Amazon about this issue, but I will. If they get their act together on the mangled cans, I will give this a five star rating!

Review of Blue Buffalo Basics Dry Dog Food, Turkey and Potato Recipe

We've tried everything from organic dog food to Natural Balance L.I.D. (potato & duck), to finally this brand. We have a pitbull who seems to be allergic to everything he gets so miserable during flare-ups, which happens quite often. We've narrowed down several things he seems to be allergic to including venison, latex toys, and some unknown ingredient ("natural flavors" or canola oil perhaps?) in the Natural Balance dog food. The latest recall about dog food ingredients sourced from China got me researching Natural Balance may have their dog food facilities here in the states, but they do not deny they order ingredients from China. My dog was vomiting his food nearly every day. I've got two other dogs who didn't, so I thought it was more of an allergy issue than contaminant. But I don't like taking risks with my dogs. So, in searching for a dog food with limited ingredients, and a company that sources ingredients from the USA, I ran across Blue Buffalo brand. I read the ingredients which did not include "natural flavors" or anything else that I thought might be a problem. One of the ingredients is blueberries, and I figured they dropped in a few berries and mashed it all in with the rest of the food so they could include it on their ingredient list. Imagine my surprise and complete delight when I saw dried blueberries as part of the kibble! This is awesome there are truly enough blueberries to add antioxidants and other phytonutrients to their diet.

Anyway, within 2 days of feeding this to my pit, his inflamed skin started to heal. His energy level increased (because he felt good), his coat became very shiny, and he has not vomited once since being on this brand (I feed both dry and canned, as well as supplement with some homemade food). We've been dealing with his issues for over a year, and this is the first time he seems to have cleared up without the help of medication. He's been on Blue Buffalo for about a month now.

Update: The "blueberries" may actually be what they call "Life Source Bits" which do include blueberries, but also other ingredients. In either case, the food has done wonders for my dog.

For a long time, my dog had "stomach" issues we initially noticed when he was constantly having to go potty and was always gassy. Since then, we've switched him to various brands of food that had more "pure" ingredients. Switching over to these premium foods definitely seemed to help his intestines seemed to be functioning more normally. However, after months and months of staying on one brand/flavor, he began retching and vomiting every once in a while. OK, nice try, but the front corners of the lid have no tension on them when the latch is closed and as a result do not form an airtight seal. You may as well leave the food in the bag with the top folded over. I'm guessing those who gave it positive reviews have not exposed their container to insects. If they had, their opinion would be different. At the end of the day, this doesn't solve the problem of keeping air, humidity, and insects out of our pets food.

It maybe small but it does a great job in storing a large bag of dog food....keeps it fresh longer and I can wheel it around where ever I want.....glad I got this little gem.
