I bought some Honest Kitchen Embark for my two miniature poodles and they really love the food. Then I saw an offer for a free sample of Zeal. They also love this food and the ingredients are very good for them. I've started feeding them grain free foods for the past year or so since one of the dogs has bad allergies. But most grain free foods contain white potatoes which are very high carbohydrate. The allergic dog can tend to overweight so I also try to limit her carbohydrate intake. Zeal is one of the lowest carbohydrate foods HK makes. The food is very easy to re-hydrate. Just add equal amounts of food and water, stir, and wait 5-10 minutes. That 5-10 minutes is sheer torture for my dogs as they sit at the base of the cabinet and stare up at their bowls.

We have a Silver Lab who at 1 year old turned out to have a VERY sensitive digestive system like the dog version of IBS or Crohn's. (perfectly healthexcept for this) The ZEAL is a God-Send! All the symptoms vanished and our Labrador is his usual adorable, playful, strong, smart self. With our Vet's advice, we have had him on an elimination diet as one would do for a human in the same circumstances.

We keep the food in a tight container and there is no fish smell. Of course there is slightly when you rehydrate it, because it's FISH basedLOL. Better wild caught fish than chemicals and unhealthy cheap food for dogs or anyone. I expect fish smell when I cook fish for us, so that's how it goes.

Some pets (& humans) seem to have sensitivities and it is a great day when a PERFECT-4-US product/food plan is found. So this amazingly healthy food has our Labrador in Olympic-Good-Health. I give it every possible star. It is also good to know that the company has trial portions and you can phone them and ask for sample sizes to see if your dog enjoys the food. That's how we started.

I ordered a sample of this food because my husband and I have been researching a healthy low fat food for our dog. Our dog has been having digestive issues and the Vet. recommended a low fat diet.

I ordered the sample because of the previous review. I did not want to end up with a 10lb box of food that my dog wouldn't eat. As soon as the shipment arrived, I opened the box took out the plastic bag containing the food and without opening it I placed it near my dogs nose for him to smell. He loved the smell! After that he never left my side, he wanted a taste. I went ahead and prepared the food, hoping I would be able to stand the fishy smell. I was bracing for the worst and was pleasantly surprised. The food smells like a fish stew. If you're sensitive to the smell of seafood, I can see how you would find this food very smelly. I myself didn't mind it and my dog loves tuna and salmon. This food is perfect for his palate. It had been a while since I had seen him munch his food with such enthusiasm.

What your vet isn't telling you (because veterinarians make SO MUCH MONEY from this issue is that 10 times out of 10, if your dog is itching, scratching, losing hair, etc HE OR SHE IS ALLERGIC TO GRAIN!!! The vets LOVE this condition, and MOST of them will NEVER tell you that it's a GRAIN ALLERGY, because they are guaranteed to make lots of money off of you every month! They will not tell you what the allergy is they will just tell you it's allergies they'll give your fur-kid a shot of steroids a shot of antibiotic, and send you home with oral (pills) steroids and antibiotics, maybe some cream or an antihistamine or tell you to give benadryl. About a week after your meds are finished the cycle will just begin again, and you will just become part of the vicious cycle for the rest of your fur-kid's life.

****LISTEN!!! I do not work for a dog food company. I am a doggie sitter and doggie groomer. I see this almost every single day of my life and it makes me really ANGRY that because of GREED, so many of our fur-kids are going out of their minds from itching or go through life drugged, just to calm the itchies.

In 2 WEEKS, you will notice a difference in only 3-6 months you will notice that your baby's symptoms are COMPLETELY GONE and you won't have a huge vet bill every month! Their hair will be beautiful again and they'll be so much happier and so will you AND your wallet!!!

I particularly LOVE Honest Kitchen's grain free food, especially this one my girls are so much healthier and happier now. Remember too, that you have to remove TREATS with grain from their diet too! A lot of people forget to do this! No more Milkbones, pizza crust and please make sure the human kids aren't giving Fido any table food!!!

*** If you think that the food is expensive try to remember how much you were paying your vet and every single time, your fur-kid ended up not being CURED just reverting back to the same symptoms time after time!

I started feeding my dog Zeal at the reco of my local pet store Maxwell Dog, and i just can not believe the difference in only a month. His allergies are GONE. His stomach problems that no vet could figure out, GONE. He used to spend hours gnawing his paws, after a week on zeal he has completely stopped. His coat is better than ever, and he's trimmed up and become more active. I have now started my other dog on it as well, and she is also thriving on it. Her coat is softer than ever. They just LOVE this food, and i am just in complete shock at what a difference it has made in such a short time. I really love how on the Honest Kitchen website they list every source for all ingredients. Esp with all the chicken worries, it makes me feel safe knowing this company is so upfront and conscious. Yes, it's pricey. But for me, worth every penny. Thanks for making such an excellent product for my babies :)
